Today the United States looks at the safe supply of its energy needs as essential to the country's security policy.

All the three Presidents, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan assumed office at a time when the United States was unsure of its energy security, its international standing and influence in the world.

President Ford's presidency came in the wake of the 1973 Oil Crisis. He quickly implemented the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975, which was the first comprehensive energy policy at a Federal Level.

Jimmy Carter also faced an Energy crisis also known as the Second Oil Crisis of 1979. Jimmy carter's response was a deregulation of Domestic Oil prices and trying to limit energy consumption.

Ronald Reagan took on an aggressive approach, decontrolling All gas and oil prices in the United States, soaring domestic production and also focusing on the development of a robust, long-term reserve oil and gas for future emergency needs.
