The doctor might think she is suffering from sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can cause a number of surprising symptoms, including a change in mood, difficulty concentrating or thinking, decreased immune function, and weight gain, among many others. Sleeping less than six to eight hours per night can cause sleep deprivation. The doctor was probably suspicious that this might be causing Helle's symptoms.
