How is energy conserved when a pan of water on an electrical stove comes to a boil

    Here's what I find.

    Explanation:

    The electrical coil on the stove provides heat energy (q).

    This energy is used to

    heat the pan (q1) heat the water (q2) convert the water to steam (q3)

    and some of the energy is wasted by radiation into the surroundings (q4)

    The energy conservation would be

    q = q1 + q2 + q3 + q4
