Miss Maudie Atkinson is a true friend to Jem and Scout - and Atticus in harper Lee’s novel, Miss Maddie keeps to herself except when a neighbor is in need. She is also one of the Maycomb citizen that is the most open minded. She was a widow. In the evenings, Scout described her as "reigning over the street in magisterial beauty. Most of the time she spent her time talking with the children. She hated to be inside and was often working in her garden.
