Why are instruments tuned before being played as a group? in which ways do musicians tune their instruments?

If the instruments are not tuned, the ensemble will not be able to blend together. Musicians usually use a tuner to find the perfect pitch, or a well seasoned musician that has perfect pitch can tune it by ear.
