    Pablo Picasso's treatment of space in Les Demoiselles D'Avignon (fig. 32-6) dramatically changed the practice of painting in the west by introducing an alternative to traditional systems of perspective. In this painting, he did away with pre-existing artistic conventions, like for example naturalism and perspective sending even the most forward-thinking viewers into a future they weren't very much prepared for.
