I believe the correct answer is: a romantic.

Edgar Allan Poe was an American Romantic writer, alongside Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. But, even though his writings were was akin to his contemporaries and characteristics of Romanticism, his works often bordered on what was later called the Gothic genre (Dark Romanticism).
