    It is true that Holbein's The Ambassadors has several references to religious content.

    Although pretty symbolic and hidden, those references can indeed be found in the painting. For example, if you take a look at the top left corner of the painting, you will barely see a crucifix slightly showing behind the green curtain. Additionally, the book on the table is a Lutheran hymnal, so it's a book of hymns sang in a church.
