The monastery and its cloister were dedicated to the Holy Mother and called 'Monastery of Our Lady Queen of the Angels'.

When the monk Bernard de Clarivaux, a very influential man in the church of his time, was canonized, the monastery was renamed with his name. The friars cisterciences occupied the place for almost 700 years.
