A sound effect (or audio effect) is an artificially created or enhanced sound, or sound process used to emphasize artistic or other content of films, television shows, live performance, animation, video games, music, or other media. These are normally created with foley.

Actually, there are many ways to make sound, sound the same as it would actually happen like a dinosaur noise people who make movies use different things like shoes and leaves to make it sound like people are running on leaves but to make sound more closer cause usually people don't hear noises like that only in real life people make amazing sounds they can even make dinosaur noises which they actually try to scream and try to make it sound like a dinosaur they use these sound effects to make it sound real even though it leaves and shoes and people screaming trying to sound like a dinosaur.
