Astral Weeks is considered one of the most influential folk-jazz albums of all time. It is also considered one of the most important albums in general. On it, Van Morrison made a perfect mix of folk-jazz with his previous classic rock sound, adding the experimental aspects. This influence the critics sometimes credited to Timothy Leary and his philosophy.

Songs like "Ballerina", "Cyprus Avenue" and "Astral Weeks" go up to 7 minutes, and "Madam George" even plays for record 9 minutes. This goes against the usual 3 or 4-minute songs that are the most popular. On these songs especially he gives his perspective on the folk-jazz side. He abandoned the classical norms for producing songs in these genres, while still using very classical instruments.
