Malcolm's first impression of Macduff is distrust. He believes that Macduff was sent out by Macbeth to kill him. He decided to test Macduff's loyalty. Malcolm told Macduff that he was a not a good king and far worse than Macbeth. Malcolm wanted to see if Macduff will continue to support him. Macduff was able to get his trust by saying that he had never told a lie and he was willing to do anything to get revenge on Macbeth.
