What happened to Edward Steichen when he tried to return to the US with the sculpture Bird

When he tried to return they told him it was not art so they charged he to duty and sent him and they thought they could use it as a kitchen tool but he refused to do it so he had to go to court but the judge said that he did not have to do the import fee and claimed that it was art.
