Prehistoric people did not have much technology to make tools except for very simple tools. Lyres and guitars both require strings, several parts, and fairly complex technology. It would be unreasonable to think that prehistoric people could have the technology to manufacture such complex objects. Although tambourines are somewhat simpler, they do have metal disks which would require advanced technology in metallurgy to manufacture. The best choice is the use of the human voice to make music. It does not require any special technology to make music with the human voice. It is thought that the first music that prehistoric people made was with the body (voice, clapping, stomping feet, leg-slapping, etc ...) and simple percussion instruments, such as hitting rocks or sticks together.
