Why do smaller animals lose heat at a faster rate than larger animals

    They have a thinner layer of fat which acts as an insulator at keeping heat in. bigger animals stay warmer because they are physically more suited for colder weather.

    As animals grow larger, their volume and mass grows larger faster, the ratio of their surface area to volume reduces, this means the retain heat better.
