During respiration, the two gases that are exchange between the body and the air are oxygen and carbon dioxide. The exchange occur primarily between the air sacs of the lungs and the blood. The inhaled oxygen enters the lungs and gets to the air sacs of the lungs, oxygen then passes quickly through the air-blood barrier in the lungs and enter into the blood in the capillaries. At the same time, carbon dioxide passes from the capillaries into air sacs of the lungs and is exhaled.
