Motility: Mechanical breakdown and mixing of ingested nutrients by smooth muscle movements, passage of nutrients through the digestive tract, and elimination of undigested or unabsorbed residues from the body. Secretion: Release of enzymes, hormones, and other substances that take part in digestion.
