What happens to water molecules in light dependent reactions?

    What is the role of water in the photosynthetic process? Water splits into oxygen, hydrogen ions, and electrons to replace the lost electrons of photosystem II in the light dependent reaction. Also as hydrogen ions pass through ATP sythase, ATP is formed to use in the light independent reactions.
