Producers have the ability to make their own food using an energy source, like the sun. An example of this would be a plant.

Consumers are broken into two groups: primary and secondary.

Primary consumers are the herbivores that eat the producers.

Secondary consumers are the carnivores that eat the primary consumers.

Deer are herbivores and wolves are carnivores; they are both consumers.

So the main difference between producers and consumer are that producers make their own food and consumers can't. They eat producers and other consumers.
