Why can mutations in the DNA of a single cell affect the function of an entire organism?

    It depends ... if its about cancer it will effect the organism eventually but in general our body recognizes the mutated cells and kills them. After sperm and egg fuses if the mutation occurs it can effect the growing baby ...
