The cells of the suprarenal cortex produce more than two dozen steroid hormones collectively called corticosteroids.

Suprarenal cortex or adrenal cortex produces a class of steroid hormones and their analogues. Two main classes of corticosteroids are:

    1. Mineralocorticoids which maintain salt and water balances (electrolyte balance and fluid balance). The primary mineralocorticoid is aldosterone. 2. Glucocorticoids which regulate a variety of important functions such as cardiovascular, metabolic, immunologic, and homeostatic.
