    I think the statement above is false. When an athlete first starts to exercise, her initial energy needs are not provided primarily by the aerobic energy system rather is provided by the anaerobic energy system. As the physical activity starts, there is only a small amount of energy supply that is present in the muscles for use immediately and the usage of such energy does not require any oxygen. As the energy in the muscles depletes, that is when the aerobic energy system would take into action where carbohydrates are being used up and being reacted with oxygen so as to produce energy to be used by the muscles.
