A prion is a protein that is associated with the brain and its function. Prions can be found in other tissues besides the brain (like third eyelids in some animals) The human equivalent to Mad Cow Disease, which is Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, is one example. This disease comes from eating infected animal parts (brain and spinal cord) that then transfers the effects to a human.
