Genus followed by the species of the animal.

The genus will always be written first & It must be capitalized. The species (or specific epithet) is never capitalized. The two part name must be in italics.

For example, Homo sapiens (imagine it italicized)

    Homo would be our genus.

    Sapiens is our species.
