    The stage in the alternation of generations represented by fern fronds is the sporophyte. The fern frond has spores underneath its fronds. When the frond is disturbed the spores fall off and will produces little, temporary plants that are called gametophytes. These plants have the sex organs. The male and female gametes get together and produce a new fern.
