    Answer: Exhaustion stage

G eneral adaptation syndrome (GAS) is the three-stage process that predicts the physiological changes the body goes through when stressed. It was proposed by the researcher Hans Selye.

    The three stages are:

    1. alarm stage, which provides a burst of energy

    2. resistance stage, the body attempts to resist or adapt to the stressor and

    3. exhaustion stage is where energy is depleted and the body no longer functions normally due to chronic activation of the stress response.
