Why does a bacterial cell not contain mitochondria

I think its because its too small. bacteria cells are about the same size as mitochondria and chloroplasts, sometimes smaller and occasionally larger. in order f or a bacteria cell to contain mitochondria, it'd have too be larger, which means it wouldn't be bacteria anymore.
