    The diagnostic term for a chronic disease caused by under activity of the islets of langerhans (beta cells) in the pancreas is: Diabetes Mellitus (Type I and II). Diabetes mellitus is a group of diseases in which there is too much sugar in the blood over a prolonged period. In Type 1 diabetes, the beta cells of the pancreas produce little or no insulin. In Type 2 diabetes, the body has trouble using insulin effectively and after some time, insulin production is reduced.
