Why are chromosomes sorted into pairs of similar length?

    Chromosomes are sorted into pairs of similar length so that the homologous pairs can be put together and a karyotype can be made. They are numbered so that we can arrange them. Chromosome #1 is the longest and #22 is the shortest. the longest ones have the most genes.
