In which circumstances would an external cause code be reported?

    An external cause code refers to the code used when a patient present health care providers with injury. External cause code is used when a patient have injury, or is poisoned or other emergency cases. The code usually classify injuries according to intent, mechanism, place of occurrence and activity.
