The evolutionary advantage of an rna genome in eukaryotic cell virus is that it have another mechanism for genetic diversity.

For example, RNA exchange between mammalian and avain flu--> pandemic flu

It also have advantage to get around limitation that Eukaryotic only encode one protein.

Viral genomes can be made out of either RNA or DNA. The genomes of RNA viruses can be either single-stranded or twofold stranded RNA, and may contain at least one separate RNA particles

The evolutionary advantage of an RNA genome in eukaryotic cell virus is the possibilities of new genome compositions. The virus have evolved various genetic strategies to convert the data or information of viral genome into an infectious viral species. The cellular response to virus infection will depend on the gene expression strategies exploited by the different type of viruses and these responses must be control to stop the spread of viral infection.
