Should we devote time and money to developing alternative energy resources? Why?

I believe that we should devote time and money into developing alternative energy resources. There is a lot of debate as to whether or not global warming is man made or not but even if its not burning fossil fuels causes quite a bit of pollution and can be expensive and dangerous
