    The closer together the isobars are, the greater the pressure difference and the stronger the wind will blow.

    When isobars are very close together, the atmospheric pressue is changing very quickly in that location. This rapid pressue change causes the air to move quickly from the area of higher pressure to the area of lower pressue. Fast moving air = strong winds.
