DDT was used to control the malaria-causing mosquitoes. DDT killed them but accumulated in the soil also, through which entered animals and humans via food. There, it gets stored in the fat tissue and is very difficult to breakdown. The predator animals, feeding upon smaller animals, got DDT in their bodies from the smaller animals and DDT thus, magnified to the top level of the food chain. The government realized this and banned DDT.
