    mitochondrion

The mitochondria are the organelles in cells responsible to regulate the cellular metabolism. They are also involved in very many aspects of it such as producing ATP, which works as the cell currency, through the pyruvate, the Krebs cycle, and the electron transport chain, and also other functions such as Calcium signalling.
