I think the answer is in the oceanic photic zone. Coral reefs are ocean ridges formed by marine vertebrates living in warm shallow waters within the photic zone of the ocean. They are found within 30 degrees north and south of the equator. The coral forming colonies of organisms secrete calcium carbonate skeleton.
