The location - he mouth of a canyon near phoenix, Arizona is in an arid area, and the moderate slope. So the site is probably on an alluvial fan. The soils should be coarser near the mouth of the canyon and become finer away from the mouth. The soils m ay be layered with interbedded sediments including gravels, sands, silts and clays.
