A. How do index contours let you know if the land you are viewing is increasing or decreasing in elevation? b. What would you expect to find in an area with ten evenly spaced contour lines?

    A. Contour lines that have numbers that are getting bigger as you go inward would indicate that you have a mountain (or hill) - so that would be increasing in elevation.

    Contour lines that have numbers that are getting smaller as you go inward would indicate that you have a depression (a crater, for example) - so that would be decreasing in elevation.

    b. If you found on a map an area with 10 evenly spaced contour lines that would indicate a uniform steep slope (the closer together the steeper the slope, the wider the gentler the slope).
