I think the cause of the illness is Rota-virus. Its a contagious virus that can cause gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and intestines|). Symptoms include severe watery diarrhea, vomiting, fever and abdominal pains. Infants and young children are most likely to get rota virus disease, they become severely dehydrated and can even die.
