There are about 200 grams of protein in the blood plasma and normally none in the urine. what mechanism keeps protein out of the urine, and what structure would be potentially damaged if protein were found in significant amounts in urine

    The kidney keeps protein from entering the bladder. The kidney can be damaged by both high blood pressure and diabetes, causing proteins to leak through. (This is known as proteinuria).
