    The main three groups of rocks are metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous. Igneous rocks are formed from melted lava and volcanic ashes. Metamorphic is a mixture of sedimentary and igneous and sedimentary are formed at or near the eat the surface by accumulation of sediment.
