    One negative effect would be choice (a). As we farm the land, we take up much of the nitrogen by growing plants, but do not readily replace it. This is where turning the soil and other farm actions can mitigate these negatives. By putting crops back into the ground, we can replace some of the nitrogen lost through harvesting.
