During cytokinesis the chromosomes unwind and become a pile of very long, thin, thread-like dna and the cell goes back to looking "normal" until mitosis begins again. brainstorm with your group ideas why the dna must coil up into chromosome structures before it divides.

    During mitosis the genetic material from one cell is replicated and an entirely new cell is produced. The amount of genetic information is very great and it must be coiled up into histones to prevent the tangling and breaking of genetic material during the process of mitosis.
