Mark weighs 254 pounds and would like to lose weight. he starts a walking program that expends 1.2 kcal/pound/hour. if he walks 45 minutes a day for one week, how many calories will he burn in one week?

    To determine the number of calories he burned in a week, we multiply the mass of Mark and divide the time he walks per day to the rate of burning of the calories. We do as follows:

    time per week = 45 minutes x 7 = 315 minutes or 5.25 hours

    calories burned per week = (1.2 kcal/pound/hour) (254 pounds) / 5.25 hours = 58.06 kcal or 58060 cal
