Meiosis is the biochemical process by which living organisms produce sex cells, that is, male and female gametes. Each sex cell typically have two chromosomes, one donated by the male parent and the other one donated by the female parent. Each chromosomes is processed and transformed into four daughter cells, each of the cell have one copy of each chromosome. This process facilitates and increase the diversity in the genes of living organisms.

It is very important that organisms form genetically unique sex cells because, it makes each organism to possess a distinct genetic composition, which is very important for the adaptability, survival and evolution of living organisms.
