Why do arteries have more muscle and elastic tissue than veins?

    Arteries are under high pressure generated by the heart.

    Artery have thick and more muscular tissue to withstand high blood pressure. Arteries pumps blood to all parts of the body.

    The lumen of arteries are small, this gives them high pressure, they require very high pressure so that blood can reach all part of the body.
