Explain how the appearance of the chromatogram might change if the chromatographic paper were initiallywet with water or had come in contact with the skin

    Our hands have oils that will change the polarities of the substances when doing the chromatography. Since the purpose of chromatography is to separate the compounds in a mixture we would end up with altered results. The same goes for getting the paper wet.
