For treatment for amputated patients with phantom pain, the nurse should apply the following: medications to treat limb pain such as antidepressants that treat depression, anticonvulsants to control the attacks, chlorpromazine for schizophrenia, opiates and powerful among others. Also, electrical nerve stimulation such as transcranial magnetic stimulation that involves a strong magnetic impulse through the scalp into the brain and stimulation of the spinal cord where an electrode is inserted and a small electric current is applied to the spinal cord to relieve the pain.
