A species of kangaroo has a diploid chromosome number of 16. After meiosis, to develop the kangaroo's sperm or egg, the haploid number would be. When fertilization occurs, the zygote would again have 16 chromosomes.

    -In somatic cells there are two sets of chromosomes, one from the mother and the other from the father.

    -Sperm and egg cells are haploid, which means they only contain half the number of chromosomes of somatic cells.

    -If the kangaroo has a diploid number of 16, the haploid number is 8.

    -After meiosis, 8 chromosomes from the sperm cell get together with 8 chromosomes from the egg cell, forming a zygote with 16 chromossomes

    n=8

    2n = 16.
