El Nino is an oceanic phenomenon and it occurs when warm water drift eastward to the South American coast. The atmosphere reponds to this sudden change in ocean temperature. Once El Nino goes away the atmosphere will retain its original circulation. On the other hand, when it comes to global warming, that is the one that will do permanent damage to our climate, and will only get worst.
